Barn burns to ground
Hello Belle
Meaders
The main barn at Belle Meade Stables
burned to the ground last night.
No horses hounds or people were
hurt.
Lightning is the apparent
culprit.
Four other fires were started in the
McDuffie County area last night by lightning.
Local firefighters did a hero's job
of saving the 6 horse annex and the newer 10 horse annex
stable.
Several saddles and bridles, etc.
were lost.
The barn was engulfed in flames at
approx 1AM when it was seen by a firefighter going home from fighting another
fire.
He was on Washington Rd in front of
the Airport and looked at the glow in the sky beyond the end of the
runway.
For now we still have 10 horses
boarding - and 16 stalls - so 1 stall in now the feed room and we are still in
business.
Charlie Lewis got the EMC to install
new power to the well today - so we are back in business.
We will have a small workday
tomorrow June 1 at 8 AM to build a fence to enclose the side of the pasture by
the kennel
That is the side that the barn
structure used to enclose.
We will have regular workday Sat
June 15 and 8 AM.
More later.
